"fantastic location, great value"
We stayed at the Elite Residents in mid-August 2005. Though we were only in Malmo for one night, we really enjoyed our stay. The location is incredible. You are literally half a block from the main square (Stororget), which leads directly to the smaller, funkier, and livlier Lilla Torg square, with its multitude of restaurants and bars. Sodergatan, the main pedestrianized street, is only a block away. The central train station is directly across the canal from the hotel, and the canal boat tours originate a few steps from the hotel door.
The rooms were on the small side (not unusual for Scandinavia) and amenities few, but they were nicely-designed and well-kept. The bathroom was nice, and had a heated towel rack. The room, lobby, and common areas were all kept very clean, and the service was perfectly acceptable (we only interacted with the front desk staff at check-in.)
The best part of the stay, however, was undoubtedly the breakfast. By far the largest continental breakfast I have seen, with plenty of meats, cheeses, cereal, breads, etc. to choose from. The breakfast room was really nice, with large bay windows looking out over the canal.
All in all, this is a great hotel for the budget conscious. Highly recommended.
